A German Requiem
Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra / Bernard Haitink
The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra will be giving no fewer than three concerts in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall in the 2017/18 season. Two evenings with principal conductor Mariss Jansons frame this concert featuring Johannes Brahms’s »German Requiem«, one of the best-known settings of the mass for the dead. Instead of gloom and despair, Brahms offers us a score full of solace, hope and faith, something that makes this gigantic choral work almost unique to this day. On the rostrum: Dutch star conductor Bernard Haitink, who has headed the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam for nearly 30 years now, and, as he approaches the age of 90, is one of the great living legends of the scene.
