5/8erl in Ehr’n
»Ganz Wien« Festival
5/8erl in Ehr’n have been demonstrating with great brilliance that a good dose of soul is inherent to the Viennese way of life since 2006. The five-strong band delicately weave the deadly serious with the ecstatically joyful and the trivial with the political – thereby translating the pulse of Vienna into a groove you just can’t escape.
Pigeonholers do not have it easy with 5/8erl in Ehr’n because it is almost impossible to slot them into one genre. However, that is exactly their defining characteristic: their unpredictability. Inspiring soul is followed by some solid rocksteady, a waltz with a folk song. All pillared by lyrics that first root for love and go on to decry all-too-common everyday racism.
The »Ganz Wien« festival brings the Wienerlied (Viennese song) in all its forms to the stages of the Elbphilharmonie. A line-up of the contemporary scene’s most exciting artists exudes original Viennese flair and demonstrates the musical treasures the Austrian capital has to offer.
