Description

The rapidly rising young Chinese pianist Yutong Sun, whose playing is celebrated by the international press for its exceptional structural clarity, inner tension and world-class sound design, is considered one of the most remarkable musical storytellers of his generation.

In his debut in the Elbphilharmonie’s Recital Hall, Yutong Sun creates a programmatic arc spanning three centuries, reflecting the major themes of inwardness, transformation and imagery. From Beethoven’s late self-questioning to Busoni’s romantically filtered reimagining of Bach’s Chaconne to Debussy’s iridescent world of light and masquerade – ultimately culminating in Mussorgsky’s iconic cycle Pictures at an Exhibition, which brings sound, memory and visual imagination together in a thrilling synthesis.
