Description

What brings about persecution? When does exile begin for the individual? Can Dündar, a Turkish journalist now living in exile in Germany, addresses these questions. Following that discussion, the Syrian Expat Philharmonic Orchestra performs symphonic Syrian music that is scarcely known in the west. A musical statement for cultural diversity without borders.

The Syrian Expat Philharmonic Orchestra is the first Syrian symphony orchestra outside the Middle Eastern country. Professional musicians who live in Europe came together in 2015 to set up this ensemble of Syrian exiles with the aim of preserving the rich musical culture of their native land. In addition to classical repertoire, the orchestra, which numbers some 75 members, regularly plays contemporary Syrian and Arab music.
