Description

The »wayfarer« runs through this programme of chamber music like a leitmotif: the music is redolent of departure and yearning, of native roots and agony of the soul. The former horn player of the Philharmonic State Orchestra, Klaus Florian Vogt, returns to his native North Germany to perform in this concert.

Gustav Mahler composed his »Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen« (Songs of a Wayfarer) at the age of 24 under the impression of an unrequited love. The four songs are heard here in an arrangement for octet. The evening starts with Mozart’s »Posthorn Serenade«: a brilliant wealth of musical ideas clad in festive and galant guise. Light music in the best sense of the word.

Last but not least, Dvořák’s »Czech Suite« is a tribute to the composer’s own musical roots and a declaration of love for his native Bohemia.
