A Wildfire in the Grand Hall

A dark object hovers above the orchestra; the hall is bathed in semi-darkness – then it begins to glow. A spark: the opening of an evening dedicated to the fire that Prometheus brought to mankind, a symbol of knowledge and self-determination. Together with Patricia Kopatchinskaja, the Ensemble Resonanz transforms the concert hall into an interplay of light and sound.

Beethoven most prominently drew on this myth in his ballet »The Creatures of Prometheus«, from which he subsequently quoted motifs in his famous Third Symphony, »Eroica«. Originally, he intended to dedicate the symphony to Napoleon Bonaparte, whom he initially saw as a shining light, drawing a parallel with the titan Prometheus.

Adventurous, unconventional and always in search of the unknown: with her extraordinary programme concepts, Patricia Kopatchinskaja continually finds new and exciting ways to bring music and performance together. She weaves the Baroque composer Rebel and the avant-garde composers Schoenberg and Xenakis around the fixed star that is Beethoven. With her magnificent enthusiasm for playing and mesmerising stage presence, Kopatchinskaja, together with the Ensemble Resonanz, sets the stage alight.
