John Zorn, the saxophonist and composer from New York City, is a unique figure in the wide world of music. No one creates so much material so unrelentingly in so many sound languages as he does. Less prolific musicians might produce an album every eight years – Zorn has been releasing a new album every month for the last eight years, and none of them is alike. In mid-March, the tirelessly productive master from the Village is curating a spectacular festival of his own work in the Elbphilharmonie, the »John Zorn Reflektor«. Ten days before the festival starts, an Elbphilharmonie+ one-day seminar provides an opportunity to dive deeply into the John Zorn universe. The Hamburg-based Zorn expert Axel Zielke will be giving participants an overview of the most important projects, the various composition techniques and the conceptual approaches pursued by Zorn in his work over almost 50 years.
