A touch of Norway

»I write my own South Sami lyrics and songs because there is no South Sami music that I could listen as a child,« says young singer Marja Mortensson, who was born into a family of reindeer herders in Norway. The 30-year-old experiments with traditional joik singing like no other, breathing new life into it time and again – literally, together with jazz tuba player Daniel Herskedal in her current project »Båalmaldahkesne – Entwined«, which is coming from Norway to Hamburg for the »Arctic Voices« festival.
