The Magic of Fado

She brings Portuguese flair to the Elbe: the famous fado singer Mariza. Since her breakthrough almost 25 years ago, she has been one of the most important ambassadors of Portugal’s iconic singing culture. Now the superstar presents her new album »Amor« at the Elbphilharmonie.

After the death of Amália Rodrigues, the unforgettable »Queen of Fado«, the whole country searched for a worthy successor – and found her in the young Mariza. With her extraordinary voice and captivating stage presence, she has gained a huge fan base all over the world. Mariza is the heir to Amália Rodrigues, a cultural ambassador and artist who constantly reinvents herself without denying her roots.

Mariza’s music builds bridges between tradition and modernity, between memory and the future. Her concert as part of the »Elbphilharmonie Summer« festival and her new album »Amor« are all about love: »It deals with themes such as love, nostalgia and identity – deeply rooted in the tradition of fado, but with contemporary influences.«
