Anniversary Celebration Concert

Mahler and Mäkelä are an absolute dream team. This season at the Elbphilharmonie, we have the chance to hear them twice. As the newly appointed Music Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Mäkelä will demonstrate just how brilliant he is at the podium in a performance of Mahler’s poignant Ninth Symphony. It has a massive score that demands great presence of mind from its conductor, making it just perfect for Mäkelä to impress his audience. It is no coincidence that this particular orchestral highlight with this particular symphony is scheduled for this date: The Chicago Symphony Orchestra also played Mahler’s Ninth here at Hamburg’s brand-new concert hall in the week it opened.
