American Orchestras

Plenty of visitors from across the Atlantic: as part of the »USA 250« focus, leading ensembles from the United States travel to Hamburg

Description

Antonín Dvořák gave his Symphony No. 9 the subtitle »From the New World« when he wove American sounds into his music. Today, that »new« world is no longer so new, and is home to some of the finest orchestras. To mark the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, these ensembles set out as cultural ambassadors, making a stop at Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie.

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra opens the season in celebratory style, bringing with it star soloists Augustin Hadelich and Alexandre Kantorow. It is followed by orchestras from Cleveland, New York City, Chicago, Boston and San Diego, with diverse programmes that highlight the deep-rooted ties between the »old« and the »new« world.
