Better call Brian

We’re all familiar with spin-offs from the world of TV: a supporting character from series A has surprising potential for their own story so they become the protagonist in series B. Brian Marsella experienced a similar fate in John Zorn’s universe. He was already successful as a pianist with exemplary classical training and a technique to match, and as a glamorous improviser in jazz long before he crossed paths with Zorn. A few years ago, Zorn brought the pianist together with the drummer Kenny Wollesen and the bassist Trevor Dunn for a recording of »Book of Angels Vol. 31« on his label Tzadik. Since then, the three have been making music under the name Brian Marsella Trio and will feature at the Reflektor with a special Zorn programme.
