Description

Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms – by concentrating on selected composers and producing racy new interpretations of their works, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen has shown time after time why they are one of Germany’s best orchestras. Without fail, they discover exciting new facets to what we believe are familiar classics. Now, the audience favourite focus their attention in two consecutive Elbphilharmonie concerts on Franz Schubert, whose lieder ushered in the Romantic era.

Under the baton of their principal conductor Paavo Järvi, the Bremen musicians play sophisticated orchestral arrangements of the genre by composers such as Brahms, Webern and Britten. The soloist is this year’s Artist in Residence and experienced Schubert interpreter Matthias Goerne. The two concerts are crowned by Schubert’s »Tragic« (13 April 2018) and his »Great« Symphony (14 April 2018) respectively, highlighting the emotional extremes in the music of this Romantic genius.
