Spring feelings
Some 50 minutes long, and an opus number that it shares with Beethoven’s standard work: British composer Edward Elgar did not use half measures for his Violin Concerto. After all, he had to reach the age of 53, to receive a knighthood and to rise to the position of »the« English national composer before he was ready to tackle this venerable genre. In 1910 the score was complete, and the British public was able to hear a classic example of noble, romantic and mature composition.
