Heinrich Heine und die Musik

A homage to one of Germany’s most famous poets, and a declaration of love for 19th century music: Heinrich Heine was a respected music critic in Paris for a while. During his exile years in France, he wrote commentaries on the music of the time – sometimes positive, sometimes damning. Many famous composers, among them Liszt, Wagner and Bellini, had a high opinion of the writer, likewise the Parisian press. Some of the composers who knew Heine personally even set his verse to music, creating songs of the utmost lyrical quality. Thus Heine became the German-language poet whose work was most often set to music – and he remains so to this day.
