The best trumpet player in the galaxy
Contemporary composers love him: no technical refinement is too tricky for him, no note is too high and no rhythm too complex. For The Times, Håkan Hardenberger is no less than »the best trumpet player in the galaxy«. The Swedish musician has been at the top of the list of international trumpet virtuosi for years, but there is one time of year when even he cannot resist the simple magic inherent in his instrument: as Christmas approaches, people yearn to hear the trumpet in all its golden splendour. For tonight’s concert, Hardenberger, Johanna Wallroth and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta have put together a fine Advent programme combining his highly virtuoso core repertoire such as the Magnificat Variations and intimate pieces like the Christmas ballad »A Child is Born«.
