Description
With Vivaldi Recomposed and his marathon lullaby »Sleep«, prize-winning British composer Max Richter is currently one of the most exciting musicians of the 21st century, and he is also one of the few classical composers to have reached the pop charts to boot.
For Richter, traditional genre boundaries have always been fluid. Describing his musical socialisation in the 1980s he says: »I liked the original energy of punk, but at the same time I was studying classical music seriously and built analogue synthesizers in my room using the soldering iron.« To this day, it is the fascinating mixture of minimal music, ambient pop and electronic, and his close affinity for literature, film and dance that make his music seem simultaneously modern and timeless.
