Ensemble Resonanz: Tabula rasa
Festival »Lux aeterna«
Description
»When I play Frank Martin’s Polyptyque, I feel the same responsibility and the same exaltation as when I play Bach’s Chaconne.« Those are the words of none other than the soloist who premiered the work – the great Yehudi Menuhin. The 30-minute violin concerto, for which Martin selected as a basis six stations from the Passion narrative on a winged altarpiece (polyptych), represents the highlight of this evening with Ensemble Resonanz and the Russian violinist Ilya Gringolts. The concert starts with another twentieth-century masterpiece: Arvo Pärt’s beautifully hypnotic double concerto »Tabula rasa«. The two pieces are tied together by hand-picked chorale preludes by Johann Sebastian Bach, played by organist and church music director Andreas Fischer.
