The NDR Radiophilharmonie and their charismatic chief conductor Andrew Manze are welcome guests in Hamburg. Alexander Glazunov’s catchy Saxophone Concerto is a work of grand Romantic gestures; the orchestra is joined here by the young British high-flyer Jess Gillam. Darius Milhaud named his exuberant piece »Scaramouche« after a role in Baroque theatre; he even manages to include a Brazilian samba in the score. The concert ends with a real symphonic firework: Sibelius’s Fifth Symphony transports us to the wide expanses of Nordic landscapes.
After the phenomenal success of the last couple of years, the concert series for the curious continues in 2020: one hour of classical music in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall just to try it out. No dress regulations, no rules of etiquette, just a relaxed atmosphere and affordable prices! The programme this time is not limited to classical music. Joining the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra is the NDR Radiophilharmonie with its charismatic conductor Andrew Manze. Mounting the rostrum with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra are Krzysztof Urbański and Alan Gilbert.
