Description
Scottish pianist Yuanfan Yang is a brilliant musician, as demonstrated by first prize awards at prestigious competitions, such as the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Weimar. He is also already in demand as a composer. This dual talent is on show in the »Teatime Classics« series, where he presents a brand-new piece of his own between works by Beethoven, Granados and Schumann.
Yuanfan Yang opens his programme with Beethoven’s Piano Sonata in G major, which was composed in 1802. In it the composer expresses his earthy sense of humour and surprises with numerous piano coloratura.
Robert Schumann’s »Carnaval« was composed during his time in Dusseldorf and was dedicated to his first fiancé Ernestine von Fricken, however the composer broke off their engagement after less than a year. The cycle’s 23 character pieces feature stirring romantic sounds – »Chiarina« was the composer’s expression of love to his future wife Clara. In between these two pieces, the passion does not let up for a moment in the piano ballad »El amor y la muerte« by Spanish composer Enrique Granados.
