Free, untamed soul

If Lucas Debargue’s life were ever to be made into a film, there would be plenty to tell: at the age of nine, the Frenchman developed an interest in classical music and taught himself the piano, but a few years later he gave it all up – in order to play the electric bass in a rock band and study literature. Not until Debargue was 20 did he return to the piano, when he also started to perform jazz. Debargue »only« came fourth in the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition in 2015, but he became the audience’s darling during the contest, which laid the foundation for his international career.
