Haydn: Die Jahreszeiten
Christina Landshamer / Ian Bostridge / Florian Boesch / Nicolas Altstaedt / Orchestra of the 18th Century
Great descriptions of nature
First we hear the peasants dancing at the wine festival, then a thunderstorm breaks: in his oratorio »The Seasons«, Joseph Haydn used all the resources of tone painting at his disposal. After »The Creation« had been such a resounding success, »The Seasons« was his next big work for the concert stage, and its vivid depictions of nature make it one of the Viennese composer’s most popular pieces to this day.
