Nocturnal cinema sound

Amongst the great jazz pianists of our age, Fred Hersch has occupied a special position for years: he is not only a »living legend« (The New Yorker) himself, but has also made a significant impact on a whole generation of pianists as their teacher, from Brad Mehldau to Sullivan Fortner and Jason Moran. Hersch’s distinctive touch and his impressionistic inflections were often compared with Bill Evans. At the same time, he readily slips in elements from classical music. At the Elbphilharmonie, Hersch now presents, after several acclaimed performances in recent years and to mark his 70th birthday in October, a solo programme for the first time.
