Striking jazz from New York

Brian Marsella is a special breed of full-blooded musician that perhaps only exists in New York City. He’s a pianist and keyboardist, composer and bandleader. He plays in a psychedelic surf rock band, in large ensembles and in smaller, intimate line-ups. For over 25 years now, Marsella has been an active figure on the Big Apple’s vibrant jazz scene, deeply involved in John Zorn’s »Masada« projects as well as in his legendary Tzadik label of Radical Jewish Culture.

His playing style thrives on dynamic strokes, fast tempos and intricately angular rhythms. Marsella caused a sensation at the Elbphilharmonie back in March 2022 during John Zorn’s »Reflektor« festival, in a trio with Trevor Dunn on bass and Kenny Wollesen on drums. How gratifying to know that this talented threesome is returning to Hamburg in the near future.
