As a teenager, the American avantgarde musician and composer Ambrose Akinmusire would play the trumpet to his favourite Bill Frisell records. He now accompanies the revolutionary guitarist in the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall. Both artists are engaged in a constant search for new impulses, which serves as the starting point for a fascinating journey between jazz and hip-hop. The music occupies a cosmos in which things often get very quiet and profound. But their joint concert also has a number of surprises in store. Frisell and Akinmusire refuse to be constrained by any framework for what could happen in their musical dialogue – authenticity and stimulation are therefore guaranteed.
