Magdalena Kožená has never limited herself to a single vocal category or been confined to only one type of stage character, refusing to be confined to a specific repertoire as so often happens to other opera divas. Rather she moves easily between opera and song recitals and is as stylistically at home in Baroque music as in the repertoire of the Impressionists or makes excursions into the world of jazz or the folk music of her homeland Czechoslovakia.

The foundation for this extraordinary versatility is her natural musicality and her silky yet intense voice, which make particularly delicate and nuanced characterizations possible. In four concerts Magdalena Kožená presents music spanning more than 400 years. Together with star pianist Dame Mitsuko Uchida she explores romantic repertoire, before paying homage to the Czech music tradition with a group of friends that include her husband Sir Simon Rattle at the piano. Her full virtuosity comes into its own in a concert with the baroque orchestra La Cetra. She ends her residency with a programme dedicated to American Broadway icon and musical pioneer Cole Porter.
