»Song of America: A Celebration of Black Music« celebrates music and texts by African American composers, sung and played by a largely African American cast led by baritone Thomas Hampson and his co-curator Dr. Louise Toppin.
In the Elbphilharmonie Talk, several of the singers and musicians who appear in the three-part concert series– Louise Toppin, Thomas Hampson, Leah Hawkins, Lawrence Brownlee und Roderick Cox – talk about the fantastic composers on the programme, up to now little-known and completely underrepresented on international concert platforms. About African Americans who have always been part of American art music. And about a project that invites the public to enjoy this repertoire in all its diversity.

All three concerts are available to stream online.
The concert series is the highlight of the 2021 Hamburg International Music Festival, which took place this year in digital form: 20 concert streams, 20 interesting and unusual programmes.
