Elbphilharmonie Talk: A Celebration of Black Music

The performers in the concert series »Song of America: A Celebration of Black Music« about a repertoire that is as fine as it is underrepresented – and a project with an impact.

»Song of America: A Celebration of Black Music« celebrates music and texts by African American composers, sung and played by a largely African American cast led by baritone Thomas Hampson and his co-curator Dr. Louise Toppin.

In the Elbphilharmonie Talk, several of the singers and musicians who appear in the three-part concert series– Louise Toppin, Thomas Hampson, Leah Hawkins, Lawrence Brownlee und Roderick Cox – talk about the fantastic composers on the programme, up to now little-known and completely underrepresented on international concert platforms. About African Americans who have always been part of American art music. And about a project that invites the public to enjoy this repertoire in all its diversity.
