Austrian guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel has been described as »the world’s quietest guitarist«. In his case, though, we should pay attention to the different nuances of meaning: Muthspiel’s playing is quiet in the sense that it’s subtle, carefully differentiated, gentle and full of floating virtuosity. This warm guitar tone can be heard in his current quintet, too, and there is a good balance between fluent ensemble playing and the necessary freedom for the individual members of the band.
