Description
A dazzling melting pot of nations – among them Hungary: Bartók’s 1910 work may be called »Deux Portraits«, but it is the same figure being depicted twice in very different ways – first as an ideal, then in a grotesque distortion. The programme also includes a small collection of fascinating miniatures by Kurtág, which he described as »matchstick compositions«. The six orchestral works are extremely short »messages« or remembrances of friends – and yet each one opens up an entire musical cosmos.
