Ian Bostridge has a global reputation as an outstanding lieder interpreter, especially when it comes to Franz Schubert’s music. For more than three decades, the tenor has been fascinated by Schubert’s »Winterreise«, one of the most tragic works in all of music history. He has performed the cycle more than a hundred times, and has even written an award-winning book about it – yet the work has lost none of its allure or mysteriousness for him. Bostridge now performs the »Winterreise« in the Elbphilharmonie for the first time – accompanied on the piano by the English conductor and musical mastermind Sir Antonio Pappano.
