Shockingly beautiful

Besides his great successes in the USA and his Czech homeland, Antonín Dvořák was also highly esteemed in Great Britain. With a commission from England, he wrote the gothic cantata »The Spectre’s Bride« for his British fans in 1885. This monumental choral work captures the dramatic atmosphere of the story perfectly in music and became frenetically acclaimed. Dvořák’s compatriot, the conductor Jakub Hrůša, carries on this Czech-British friendship from September 2025 as the musical director of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. On their first joint concert tour, they stop off at the Elbphilharmonie.
