Lux aeterna
Influenced by far-flung musical cultures, composer and pianist Thierry Pécou has always gone his own way with the aim of reviving »the ritual character of music«. Expressly to turn his vision into practice, he founded Ensemble Variances, with which he concentrates first and foremost on contemporary music in a variety of orchestrations.
In Hamburg he presents among other things two of his own compositions: his setting of the penitential psalm »Miserere«, and »Chö, un rituel tibétian«, a piece inspired by Tibetan Buddhism, in which the bass clarinet and the piano imitate ritual instruments.

St. Katharinen, one of the five major churches in Hamburg, is regarded as the tallest building in the Hanseatic City. The church was originally designed in the Gothic style – today, the tall windows that flood the interior with light are evidence of this.
