Vivaldi, the inventor of minimal music

Antonio Vivaldi’s »Four Seasons« is the most-recorded cycle in classical music. The four violin concertos regularly feature on »best of classical« compilations and guarantee phenomenal sales. For Max Richter, that’s exactly the problem with the Baroque originals: heard far too often, with all paths of interpretation flogged to death. When Deutsche Grammophon approached Richter for their Recomposed series in 2012, he swiftly decided against a remix and opted for a literal »recomposition«.
