Description
When Telemann arrived in Paris in 1737, Rameau’s tragédie en musique »Castor et Pollux« was the talk of the town. Even in his letters decades later, the Francophile Telemann was still writing about his memories of this visit to Paris and the impression Rameau’s music made on him. The Les Talens Lyriques ensemble and Christophe Rousset now bring together music by Telemann and Rameau in one programme.
Alongside two suites with the programmatic titles »Die Dirne« (The Harlot) and »Wassermusik« (Water Music) and two French-language arias in the style of Jean-Baptiste Lully, written by Telemann in 1726 for his opera »Orpheus«, the programme also includes Rameau’s 1728 cantata »Le Berger fidèle« and a suite from Rameau’s opéra-ballet »Fêtes de l’Hymen et de l’Amour«. Les Talens Lyriques have put these pieces together to create a wonderfully unified programme.
