A portrait of Patricia Kopatchinskaja states: »Scream, rant or whisper: her violin is without taboos.« Therefore, which composition is better suited for the unconventional violinist than György Kurtág’s »Kafka Fragments«? Kopatchinskaja continues her residency at the Laeiszhalle with this first of three concerts that she will perform during the course of the Hamburg International Music Festival.

In this work for soprano and violin, both interpreters are required to stretch the limits of their skills. The voice as immediate connection to the soul quotes text fragments from journals and letters by Franz Kafka, sometimes singing, sometimes speaking. Meanwhile, inspired by the texts, the violin explores a sound spectrum between unfamiliar ways of playing and a full violin sound.

Kopatchinskaja invites Finnish singer Anu Komsi to join her for this challenging undertaking intended for two performers, equally important. The late hour and the intimate yet festive ambiance of the Laeiszhalle’s Brahms Foyer provide them with the perfect stage for a memorable evening.

Brahms-Foyer

Chamber music concerts and receptions are accommodated in the festive foyer located on the first floor. The Brahms Foyer is also the gastronomic centre of the Laeiszhalle.

Entrance

The Brahms Foyer can be reached via the main entrance on Johannes-Brahms-Platz.
Accessibility

The accessible entrance to the Grand Hall and Brahms Foyer is located on Gorch-Fock-Wall. The Brahms Foyer is only accessible to folding wheelchairs or wheelchairs under 72 cm in width.

The accessible entrance to the Recital Hall is located at Dammtorwall 46 (Artists’ Entrance). The Recital Hall is only accessible to folding wheelchairs or wheelchairs under 68 cm in width.

Three parking spaces for visitors with disabilities are located at the entrance on Gorch-Fock-Wall. Six parking spaces for visitors with disabilities are available in front of the Artists’ Entrance on Dragonerstall.

All halls and spaces are accessible for visitors with disabilities. The Grand Hall has space for six wheelchairs, while the Recital Hall has space for four wheelchairs (audience seats can be dismounted to make space for two further wheelchair spaces). Please note: There are several construction sites in the immediate vicinity of the Laeiszhalle which may make it difficult to get to the concert. Please therefore plan enough time for your journey to the concert.
Laeiszhalle is not at the Elbphilharmonie

The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.
Arrival time

We suggest visitors arrive at the Laeiszhalle main entrance not later than 30 minutes before the start of the concert or event. Late seating is not guaranteed and latecomers may not be admitted to the concert hall.

The entrance of the Recital Hall is located on Gorch-Fock-Wall.

Admission times Grand Hall and Recital Hall:

Events without pre-concert talk:
Foyer: 60 minutes before the start of the event
Hall: 30 minutes before the start of the event

Events with pre-concert talk:
Foyer: 90 minutes before the start of the event
Hall: 15 minutes before the start of the talk
