»This is the master trio of our day; a lovely composition that will bring pleasure in years to come to our grandchildren and great-grandchildren.« Robert Schumann wrote an enthusiastic review of the first performance of Felix Mendelssohn’s First Piano Trio. And his euphoric prediction turned out to be right: Mendelssohn’s D minor trio is among the composer’s best-known pieces of chamber music. Antonín Dvořák likewise wrote melodies for all time, among them his String Quintet Op. 77. The entire score of this work in G major is permeated by a lively style. Dvořák submitted it for a competition in 1875, and won his first prize as a composer at the age of 30.
