Heiner Goebbels: »Eislermaterial«

1998 would have seen the 100th birthday of Hanns Eisler, the great composer, dialectic thinker, companion of Bertolt Brecht and inventor of »applied« music. To mark the occasion, Heiner Goebbels (b. 1952) wrote »Eislermaterial«, at one and the same time a tribute to Eisler and a gentle deconstruction that takes up the composer's contradictory and highly political art. The ECM label released a recording of »Eislermaterial« in 2002 with the Ensemble Modern and German actor Josef Bierbichler as part of its New Series.
