Description

The special concert by the Hamburg Camerata is dedicated to the magic of nature and music – how to preserve it, and how to rediscover it. »What a magical thing spring is, with its suddenness, its splendid force!« wrote Pyotr Tchaikovsky in 1876. With his cycle The Seasons, he created small musical monuments to such fleeting moments throughout the year: an evening by the fire, a snowy sleigh ride, the exuberance of carnival – each scene is rendered in Tchaikovsky’s music with captivating beauty.

For German-British composer Max Richter, the focus is on re-enchantment. Like many concertgoers, Richter’s love for classical music began with Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. And like for many, that initial magic eventually wore off: »You hear it on TV, in commercials, as elevator or hold music. That’s how the work loses its magic.« With »Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi – The Four Seasons«, Richter breathes new life into the piece through the lens of our time. Elements of Vivaldi’s four violin concertos merge with ambient and minimal music. One delighted critic called it »Vivaldi for the 21st century.«
