Pensive tones

Ethan Iverson is a musician, composer, teacher and music critic – all in one. Having risen to prominence with the band The Bad Plus, the pianist has performed alongside artists such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Lee Konitz, Larry Grenadier and the legendary bassist Ron Carter. Through his blog »Do the Math«, Iverson keeps a close eye on both the jazz and classical music worlds, engaging in conversations with artists including Bill Frisell, Wynton Marsalis and Cécile McLorin Salvant about their music. He brings all of these experiences into his own work, which he now presents in Hamburg together with saxophonist Greg Osby.

As part of the »Jazz Piano« series, the two musicians appear not only as a duo but also as outstanding solo performers in their own right. Iverson performs selections from his »American Short Stories« – brief, vividly characterised piano pieces in which he translates scenes from everyday life into music with wit, precision and insight.
