Fire magic

The Ensemble intercontemporain founded by Pierre Boulez has the reputation of one of the world’s best ensembles for contemporary music. Under the baton of Matthias Pintscher, the up to 31 soloists play his composition »NUR« and James Dillon’s »Pharmakeia«.

Visions as a package: If you buy three or more concerts of the »Elbphilharmonie Visions« festival at the same time, you will receive a 30% discount on the ticket price. To do so, select »Visions Trio Bonus 30%« in the shopping basket.

»NUR« is the word for fire in both Arabic and Hebrew. The work for piano and ensemble was written at the instigation of Daniel Barenboim, and is dedicated to the Barenboim-Said Academy. This »west-east« orchestra inspired Pintscher to achieve a special balance: »The solo instrument and the ensemble are equal partners in a true musical dialogue.« Ensemble member Dimitri Vassilakis shines as the pianist.

The Greek word »Pharmakeia« originally meant magic: the term for pharmacy in many languages is derived from it. Scottish composer James Dillon’s four-part cycle seems to be a mysterious and other-worldly fairy tale. Dillon himself says: »Starting with silence, music is home to a systemic oscillating energy, a highly diverse expanse that opens our minds to the inaccessible«.
