Homage to the homeland

»The foundation of Czech music culture« – that is how Deutschlandfunk described »The Moldau«, the world-famous second part of Bedřich Smetana’s homage to his homeland »Má vlast«. Thanks in no small part to this work, the composer is known today as one of the founders of Czech national music. The cycle of six symphonic poems was composed at a time when Czechia still belonged to a multinational state. Not only does it express the longing for independence, it also takes the audience away into the world of Bohemian myths and legends.
