Cinderella in Naples
»Cinderella the Cat« tells the famous story of Cinderella, in a manner full of melancholy amid the dark atmosphere of a futuristic Naples of the 1920s. The animated film was screened for the first time at the 74th Venice Film Festival in 2017. The directing team headed up by Alessandro Rak hails entirely from Naples – and manages to capture the raw beauty of the city in captivating ways, as well as problems with poverty and the mafia.
In the not-too-distant future, the young Mia grows up on the Megarida, a vast ship that has been stuck in the port of Naples for over 15 years. When her father, a wealthy visionary and scientist, passed away, he took the technical secrets of his ship with him to the grave. Since that time, the girl has lived in the shadow of her stepmother and her stepmother’s deceitful daughters, surrounded by holographic memories of her childhood and her father. Meanwhile, the drug trade is flourishing in the port. Mia cannot escape the criminal machinations around her and finds herself at the centre of a conspiracy. But then she receives some unexpected help from the past...
»Cinderella the Cat« is the perfect film accompaniment to one of the concerts at the »Viva Napoli« festival, which is taking place from 21-24 November at the Elbphilharmonie and explores the musical landscape and history of the southern Italian city of Naples.
Elbphilharmonie PLUS is a programme that opens up different ways of looking at the music performed at the Elbphilharmonie – either to supplement a concert, or as an experience in its own right. Interdisciplinary encounters and exhibitions form part of the Elbphilharmonie+ programme, as do concert talks and films shown in museums, libraries, cinemas and community centres.
