»Je mehr Dur Schubert verwendet, um so trauriger wird man«, bemerkte der amerikanische Komponist Morton Feldman einmal. Neben gespenstischen und klagenden Moll-Episoden birgt Schuberts spätes Klavierstück D 946/2 auch solche typischen Dur-Abschnitte, hinter deren heiterer Fassade Abgründe lauern. Gleiches gilt für das berühmte »Forellenquintett«. Es erhielt seinen Beinamen, weil Schubert dem vierten Satz sein Lied »Die Forelle« zugrunde legte. Er schrieb das Quintett 1819 für einen Amateur-Cellisten, und das gab den Ausschlag für die ungewöhnliche Besetzung: Indem er dem Klavier kein reguläres Streichquartett, sondern Violine, Bratsche, Cello und Kontrabass zur Seite stellte, befreite Schubert das Cello von seiner Bass-Funktion; es darf häufig die Melodiestimme übernehmen. Dafür spielt es im eröffnenden Quartett D 74 ganze 50 Takte lang nur einen Ton. Der Vater des jungen Schubert war der Cellist im Familienquartett – und der am wenigsten geübte Spieler des Ensembles.

Chamber music series, lieder recitals, children's concerts and jazz events seem to be made for the Recital Hall of the Laeiszhalle, which can accommodate up to 640 guests. (Please note: The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.)

We suggest visitors arrive at the Laeiszhalle main entrance not later than 30 minutes before the start of the concert or event. Late seating is not guaranteed and latecomers may not be admitted to the concert hall.
The entrance of the Recital Hall is located on Gorch-Fock-Wall.
