NDR Das Alte Werk

Description

2017 is a Telemann year. NDR Das Alte Werk celebrates the great master with a festival dedicated to the composer. His music can also be heard in the subscription concerts: from his humorous and experimental side in a »Frog Concerto«, or sensitive, elevating, human and consolatory in his oratorio »Seliges Erwägen« (Blessed Contemplation). The NDR Das Alte Werk series also displays local pride with a performance of Handel’s »Brockes Passion« in honour of the former Hamburg alderman and senator Barthold Heinrich Brockes. The series both starts and ends with an exploration of Hamburg, German and European musical history. Les Ambassadeurs open the series with a gala of French Baroque operatic music, and the season is brought to a close by Paul McCreesh and the Gabrieli Consort Players, who perform Henry Purcell’s English semi-opera »King Arthur«.
