Jazz Piano
Creative Masters in the Laeiszhalle Recital Hall
Description
The current »Jazz Piano« series features two solo, two trio and one quintet performance – all at the Laeiszhalle, in keeping with tradition. The opening concert is given by Polish musician Leszek Możdżer, who ranks as a pop star in his homeland.
American pianist Myra Melford and her versatile quintet Snowy Egret draw inspiration from the book »Memory of Fire« by Uruguayan author and historian Eduardo Galeano on the history of Latin America.
Detroit-born musician Craig Taborn is a reserved intellectual whose piano playing is characterised by unbelievable virtuosity and dynamism. His sound language lives off contrast: it is impulsive, agile and lyrical all at once.
Austrian jazz pianist David Helbock and his band Random/Control perform in a cosmos somewhere between gleeful anarchy, spontaneity and playful boldness. And for the finale: the trio of New Yorker Jamie Saft, which is just as influenced by the structured freedom of John Zorn as by swinging Blue Note jazz.
