Attention, all piano fans! Subscription 3 offers three solo concertos for the black and white keys: master pianist Igor Levit celebrates Shostakovich’s cheeky double concerto with trumpet, Jean-François Heisser plays the disguised genre contribution »Ausklang« by old master Helmut Lachenmann, and the ever-spirited Yuja Wang works her magic in Ravel’s virtuoso Concerto for the Left Hand. On each of the first two evenings, a Beethoven symphony is performed after the interval; on the last, charismatic conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen forges a tie between his native Finland and France. The third concert in the series acts as a contrast: a concert performance of Vincenzo Bellini’s adaptation of »Romeo and Juliet« with an exquisite line-up of singers. In the imaginary orchestra pit, the Hamburg-based Ensemble Resonanz, expanded by a number of guest musicians, revels under the direction of bel canto specialist Riccardo Minasi.
