Balthasar Neumann Choir and Orchestra
New ideas on historic instruments: the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble invite you on a musical journey through time
The Balthasar Neumann Choir and Orchestra – founded by Thomas Hengelbrock and named after the famous Baroque architect – have long become established as important institutions in Hamburg’s musical life. Both orchestra and choir take historically informed performance with authentic instruments and compact line-up as a basis for making music with great energy, a firm grasp and palpable joy.
The current concert series opens with Gluck’s Orpheus opera, which revolutionised the genre, and closes with Luigi Cherubini’s exuberant Requiem, which was fervently admired by Ludwig van Beethoven. And in between there is the traditional Christmas concert – this time in the Mozartsäle on the Moorweide – and a fascinating evening with the percussion formation »Repercussion« in St. Pauli Theater.
