Julian Lage in the Recital Hall

Jazz guitarist Julian Lage presents his latest solo project »World‘s Fair«

Concert Stream from 3.11.2025

Timeless and moving music somewhere between jazz, classical and folk: Julian Lage’s first solo project, »World’s Fair« (2015), is a melancholic and intimate album that earned the young guitarist widespread acclaim. On »World‘s Fair«, he sought to capture the mood of a bygone, hopeful vision of the future. A »tragic optimism«, as Julian Lage himself called it.

The New York-based musician feels equally at home in small folk clubs and on the stages of major jazz festivals. Effortlessly blending different styles and techniques, he brings a remarkable flexibility to his improvisations. Beyond his solo projects, this versatility has made him a sought-after collaborator for years now. Julian Lage has performed with jazz legends including the vibraphone pioneer Gary Burton, the pianist Fred Hersch, fellow guitarists like Pat Metheny, and most notably the avant-garde musician Nels Cline.
