Description

Please note: Joshard Daus, director of the Europa Chor Akademie Görlitz, is regrettably unable to conduct the concert due to illness. Chief conductor of the Symphoniker Hamburg, Sylvain Cambreling, has kindly agreed to step in at short notice. Instead of »St. Paul«, the oratorio »Elijah« by Mendelssohn will be performed in this concert.

The Romanticist Felix Mendelssohn saw the music of Johann Sebastian Bach as lost treasure that needed to be rediscovered. Not only did he restore the music’s reputation, he also composed his own grandiloquent oratorios. In 1836 his setting to music of the Apostle Paul’s story was premiered with great success: a gem with magnificent images in sound. It is now performed in the Laeiszhalle Grand Hall by the Symphoniker Hamburg, the Europa Chor Akademie Görlitz under their Director Joshard Daus, and exceptional soloists such as Albert Dohmen.
