A hint of spring

Zoltán Kodály’s 1906 orchestral poem »Summer Evening« begins like the gentle lament of a shepherd in the middle of a Hungarian landscape. And his »Psalmus Hungaricus« of 1923 even carries his Hungarian origins in the title. Kodály once said: »No Hungarian composer can be productive unless he incorporates into himself the living musical tradition, allows that to bloom inside, and continues it in his own way.« And with the Hungarian interpreters Gergely Madaras and István Horváth, the two works are in safe, authentic hands.
